Meet Barbara: Poland’s Newest Lemonista Making a Difference

Discovering Know Your Lemons: A Life-Changing Moment

A few years ago, a midwife from Poland watched a public health program on a TVP channel where a doctor introduced the Know Your Lemons foundation. The simplicity of the message struck Barbara immediately. In Poland, breast self-examinations are not commonly recommended by doctors, who favor ultrasound and mammography instead. As an educator for breast and cervical cancer prevention in a Gynecological Clinic, Barbara took it upon herself to educate women by sharing screenshots of the 12 signs of breast cancer from the TV program. Her efforts have already helped women detect early signs of breast cancer.

Last year, Barbara and other passionate women organized the "Świadome Kobiety" (Aware Women) Conference for over 150 participants. She spoke about breast health and distributed educational materials from Know Your Lemons. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with women eagerly embracing self-examination techniques and sharing their newfound knowledge with others.

Why Know Your Lemons? A Powerful Tool for Education

Barbara instantly fell in love with the Know Your Lemons campaign. Despite her extensive medical knowledge, she found the campaign’s visual approach to be an absolute masterpiece. She shares:

"When I talk to women about breast cancer, I show the lemons and discuss the various symptoms. Initially, they smile, then they observe, and by the end, they take the materials home to share with others. That’s how powerful this campaign is!"

Through her outreach, Barbara receives numerous invitations to speak about breast health, with many women telling her, "You must come to us, tell us about the lemons, and teach us how to care for our breasts." As a proud Lemonista for Know Your Lemons, she is always eager to accept these invitations.

Looking Ahead: Plans for the Future

Barbara’s work with Know Your Lemons is far from over. This year, she is helping to organize another conference and will continue expanding her efforts to educate even more women. Her goal is to ensure that every woman she meets understands the importance of self-examinations and early detection.

Barbara’s dedication and enthusiasm make her an incredible addition to the Lemonista community. We are thrilled to have her on board, spreading life-saving awareness in Poland and beyond! 🍋
