Educator Highlight: Sophie De Cock, Italy
“I believe all schools, waiting rooms in hospitals and doctor practices, fitting rooms in shops, and changing rooms in sports clubs should display KYL materials to raise more awareness.”
Sophie De Cock was born in Belgium and moved to Italy to become the owner of a beauty cosmetics distributor called Sophisticlin. When asked how she first came across the Know Your Lemons Foundation she said,
“I felt the need to share awareness around breast cancer through my social channels. I am in the business of skincare, which is also about skin health and prevention. Logically taking care of your body, also means that you are more conscious about what's normal for you and what all of a sudden can change. I was doing research to gain more knowledge and inspiration when I came across the 12 signs of breast cancer, designed as 12 lemons.
I just thought it was the best representation ever. All symptoms were included, no need to show breasts, so no taboos and so realistic… I believe all schools, waiting rooms in hospitals and doctor practices, fitting rooms in shops, and changing rooms in sports clubs should display KYL materials to raise more awareness.”
Sophie has taught 340 people while being an educator with us! She is able to teach many through her Professional Women Network where it is her mission to share and organize information/training sessions. She also campaigns through social media channels and suggests virtual trainings. She believes that her volunteer work and her professional work coincide as she encourages her clients to take care of their skin health, and at the same time reminds them to take care of their breast health.
Here is what Sophie had to say about being a Know Your Lemons educator:
“I wish I had the time to do so much more, but I am grateful that KYL encourages their volunteers to do what's in their best efforts. People are all impressed when they know about KYL and even those who are better informed, still learn something new during a breast health class. I know the foundation is working on many new meaningful projects and I am excited to play a moderate role in their shared mission with the United Nations to reduce the [deaths from] breast cancer, thanks to education and prevention.”
Sophie is a determined educator and finds joy in the times she is able to share this life saving information. If you enjoyed reading her story today, donate to support her passion. Donate here.
